Description

Commemorative plaque in Stockton Lions Park at Stockton in Newcastle, recalling the service of the coastal defence units during WW2. This plaque notes that Fort Wallace was rearmed with 9.2-inch guns in April 1939, and the original 6-inch coastal guns were transferred to Rabaul. The pair of stone lions in Stockton Lions Park were obtained from the Singleton Army Base; they were originally from an Army base established in Malaya after WW2, and were relocated to Singleton in the 1960s.
